No, not really. Here's the latest spam I've seen:

Good day.
Your family member has sent you an ecard from csomesillyURLer.hk.

Okay, so it probably doesn't. But, what it does do, is causes casual users to blindly enter email addresses, and create bad habits that 6 months down the road increase spam for users.

There's been a disturbance in the force. And, most recently, the Transformers are getting all juiced up. It seems like anytime there's a new movie coming out, marketeers want to join forces with a soda schlepper or potato chip purveyor to hype the movie. The usual tactic is to put a code in a package, and promise millions in prizes and booty to those who take the time to enter the code on a special website.

At first, this seems like a good deal. I'm gonna drink the soda anyway, why not make a couple bucks doing it? However, entering your email address all over the web isn't gonna help you out.

What's wrong with it? Besides, I know what I'm doing!

Here's the part where some of you will say that you can read the privacy policy, and opt not to recieve "partner emails". Granted. If you know what a privacy policy is, give yourself one point. If you've ever read one, give yourself another. If you have two points, stop reading this article, and go check out something written by Murali or Viswa. I'm speaking here to the people who aren't so initiated. (By the way--Hi Mom!) So, Mom, and the rest of you, read on...
